Late artist Ha Thi Cau is remembered as an advocate for the Vietnamese folk singing genre ‘Xam’.
Recently, an online art exhibition was held in Hanoi to bring multi-sensory experiences to those who love “Xam”, a traditional kind of singing in Vietnam.
Xam (blind busker singing) is a centuries-old singing style of Vietnamese people in the northern region. It has long been recognised as an important part of national cultural heritage.
After many modern tunes have encouraged citizens to help stop the COVID-19 pandemic, now it is the turn of traditional Vietnamese music.
The very first album featuring xam (music of blind buskers) has been released in an effort of Mai Tuyet Hoa and her team to revive the traditional music.

“Xam” is known in Vietnam as folk music usually performed by blind street singers to earn their living. As it originated from the working class and poor people, “Xam” has become an intellectual part of the commoners’ cultural life.
