According to a recent survey conducted by the Institute for Workers and Trade Unions, wages are a key factor in marriage and childbirth decisions.
The monthly average income of Vietnamese labourers in 2023 reached 7.1 million VND (over 291 USD) per person, up 6.9% compared to 2022, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Vietnamese workers last year enjoyed a 6.9% increase in their monthly income to VND7.1 million compared to the previous year, according to a report by the General Statistics Office.
Most of the current income of workers does not meet their expenditure, and in some cases, it only meets 45 per cent of demand, according to a survey by the Institute of Workers and Trade Unions under the VN General Confederation of Labour.
The income per capita in rural areas has increased to about VNĐ46.3 million each year, a rise of VNĐ4.6 million compared to 2020.
In 2030, the income of Vietnamese is expected to be equal to that of Malaysia in 2007. Experts calculate that if Vietnam tries its best, it can catch up with Thailand and Malaysia, but it will still be far behind China and South Korea.
