Catfish products saw the strongest decline among seafood exports in the first six months of the year. With weak demand, a gloomy year is anticipated for the industry.
Vietnam is facing an urgent need to build brands for its tra fish, a big foreign currency earner, amidst numerous challenges facing the industry.
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is opening the door wide for Vietnamese tra fish to enter the markets of 10 other members of the deal.
The Vietnamese tra fish exports and those of many other Siluriformes fish will have to struggle with USDA's final inspection rule, said Truong Dinh Hoe, General Secretary of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.
