Local universities play an important role in providing human resources to provinces. However, many of them are at risk of closure as they cannot adapt to new circumstances.

VietNamNet Bridge - After many delays, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has decided that from 2018, it will not set floor marks, or minimum required standards, on students applying for universities.

Despite sharp enrollment cuts, the number of teachers trained every year is still far higher than demand, as the Ministry of Education & Training (MOET) lacks control over hiring at the local level.
VietNamNet Bridge - The floor mark of 15.5 that the Ministry of Education & Training (MOET) has set for this year’s enrollment season is the highest threshold set since the ministry began organizing national high-school final exams.
Reports from 63 local education departments show there are thousands of 10/10 scores at the high school finals, an ‘abnormally’ high number compared with 68 exam papers which had a 10/10 score last year.
The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has said that with the mandated floor mark of 15 on entrance exams, there would be enough students for junior colleges and universities. But junior colleges are pessimistic about their enrolment plans.
