Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao, the first Vietnamese to be elected as a member of the International Law Commission (ILC), will continue running for this post for another tenure, 2023-2027.

Vietnam's permanent missions to the UN in New York and Geneva have recently sent diplomatic notes to the UN and countries informing the candidacy of Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao to the International Law Commission (ILC) 

In 2016, Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao became the first Vietnamese to be elected as an International Law Commission (ILC) member.

Vietnam has taken over the task of building a report on Asian-Pacific countries and the sea level rise issue in relation to international law at the 71st session of the UN’s International Law Commission (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Members of the International Law Commission (ILC) have hailed the realities in Vietnam and Southeast Asia at the first session of the just-concluded 71st general assembly at the UN office in Geneva.
