VietNamNet Bridge – A centipede of 32 cm long crawled into a house near the Da Nang Airport a few days ago. This centipede may break the world record as the longest one.
Mr. Vu Hong Phuong, 28, from Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City, said a few days ago he saw a centipede crawling into his home. "My whole family was surprised. This area is bushy so it is normal to see centipedes but this is the first time we saw such a large centipede," he said.
Phuong caught the centipede and took photos of the animal. He also measured it and found its length of up to 32 cm.
The world record for the largest centipede made last year in London, England, with a length of 27 cm. Phuong believed that the centipede that he caught may break the world record.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh, from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, said the centipede in Da Nang belongs to the Scolopendra species, of the family Scolopendridae. There are about 5-6 centipede species of this family in Vietnam.
