Pianist Håkan Andersson Rydin at Noi Bai International Airport on October 2.

The legendary musician will be joined by other foreign artists at the Jazz & Friends concert, the fifth of its kind, which is scheduled to take place on October 7 at the Vietnam National Academy of Music's (VNAM) main hall.

The one-night concert aims to mark the 10th anniversary of the VNAM’s Jazz Department. Vietnamese and international jazz artists will present seveark famous works such as Nostalgia, Moonlight in Vermont, Breezin, Vietnamese folk song Inh lả ơi, Feels Like Home, and Now's the times.

The program will have the participation of many Vietnamese jazz artists such as: Quyen Thien Dac, Luong Xuan Thinh, Hoang Xuan Tung, Nguyen Tien Manh, Hoang Hai Bang, Nguyen Minh Duc, Hoang Phu Tung, Le Duy Manh, Luong Viet Tu (Jazz Glory band)...

Rydin will also teach students of the VNAM on October 9 and October 10.

Rydin and two friends formed Swedish jazz group Nexus and performed over 1000 concerts during the 1972 to 1992 period. They made three highly accomplished records and performed in international jazz festivals, on radio, and on TV shows in several counties.

Between 1988 and 2003 Rydin played in shows all over the world alongside American singer Kim Parker, the stepdaughter of the jazz legend Charlie “Bird” Parker.

In recent years, Rydin has mostly performed in the classical piano trio format of piano, bass, and drums. In 2010 he became the first jazz musician to perform in the Great Theatre in Beijing, China.

Rydin, 72, has published two books in Swedish on playing piano by ear and he now works as Professor of Jazz Piano at the Malmo Academy of Music.

He has been to Vietnam 15 times and taught master classes with Jazz music students at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

He is the teacher of a number of famous Vietnamese jazz artists at Malmö Academy of Music, Sweden such as Pham Tuan Hung, Nguyen Tien Manh, Nguyen Tuan Nam, Le Bang...
