A representative of Ba Dinh Electric Company said work has begun to move up electric cables along the street, as they are reportedly lower than what safety standards allow.

Last week, VietnamPlus reported that electric wires as well as other cables along the street were hanging significantly low, only one metre above ground at some points.

The company's representative noted that the city's telecom companies started reorganising their cables on May 18 and will complete their task by May 22.

He pointed out that many old cables were not replaced at the right time, and they became heavy and hung lower than what safety standards stipulated. He added that his company has contacted all telecom firms concerned and requested them to immediately fix their cables to ensure the safety of local residents.

As of yesterday morning, May 19, the companies started fixing the cables and moved many of them back to their original height.

He noted that up to 60 per cent of the cables were no longer in use, and hence, they will be removed in the next few days.

"We expect the old, no-longer-in-use cables to be removed and the whole cable system reorganised before May 23.
