Typhoon Nari devastates central Vietnam

Ngoc said the terrible tornado swept through Quang Son Commune of Quang Trach District at about 1 o'clock this morning. The cyclone, accompanied by heavy rains, left at least 2 dead and 22 injured people. The tornado also made about 40 percent of houses in Quang Son commune collapse completely and the rest unroofed and badly damaged.

Even in the night, Quang Trach District authorities deployed a big force of police and military officers to rescue people.

The two people who died on the spot were identified as Mr. Mai Phu and Mr. Phan Son, both 50 years old, in Linh Can Son village. The injured victims are being treated at the Hospital of Quang Trach District and the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi town. Many people are in critical conditions.

According to Ngoc, rain kept remained heavy this morning in Quang Trach district. Particularly, Ha Son village has now been isolated from the outside world.

Earlier, from the morning of October 15, due to the effects of the Nari storm, there was downpours and strong wind in the district, which damaged many houses and crops and caused flood in many areas.

The authorities of Quang Trach district has urgently mobilized all forces to assist people in the hardest-hit and isolated areas.
