Following Vietnam’s resounding 5-0 victory over Laos in the opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the official fan page of the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen posted: “Congratulations to the Vietnamese national team on their successful start in the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. By the way, what does Hanoi Football Club think about loaning Nguyen Hai Long?”
Shortly after, Hanoi FC responded with a witty reply: “Hai Long has just extended his contract until 2029, so is SV Werder Bremen afraid to make a permanent purchase?”
A playful gesture or real interest?
The post by Werder Bremen, a four-time Bundesliga champion, seems more like a playful gesture to catch the attention of Vietnamese football fans rather than a genuine offer.
Recently, Hai Long has been one of the standout performers for the Vietnamese national team under coach Kim Sang Sik.
During the March FIFA Days, the Hanoi FC midfielder made a significant impact by scoring two spectacular goals - one against Cambodia (2-1) and another against Laos (5-0).
