At Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, the delivery ward welcomed 11 newborns within the first 30 minutes of the new year through natural and cesarean births. The final night shift of 2024 at the hospital was bustling, with 40 doctors and nearly 200 medical staff attending to expectant mothers.

At exactly midnight, as fireworks lit up the sky over Ho Chi Minh City, Thien Thanh, a 23-year-old mother from Thu Duc City, gave birth to her first child, a baby girl.

Her mother, who accompanied her during labor, was overcome with emotion, holding back tears as she met her granddaughter for the first time. "This moment was so special, full of sweetness and joy," she said.

Following her birth, the baby was placed skin-to-skin with her mother, a method known to foster bonding and provide warmth and comfort to newborns.

Nearby, Phan Duc Lam, 28, excitedly called his family in Gia Lai Province to announce the arrival of his baby.

His wife, 19-year-old Ngo Tuong Vi, had given birth to their first child, a baby girl, right at midnight - a surprise as she wasn’t due for another two days.

The baby, weighing 3.1 kg, was carefully tended to by nurses who checked her umbilical cord, administered vaccinations, and transferred her to postnatal care.

After weighing, the baby was examined by a nurse for the umbilical cord, given vaccinations, and then transferred to the postnatal care room.

According to Dr. Vuong Dinh Bao Anh, Deputy Director of Tu Du Hospital, "Each birth at this time holds a unique significance, not just for the families but also for the medical teams who share in these joyous moments."

At Hung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, four babies (three boys and one girl) were born shortly after midnight. Among them was baby Hải Đăng, the second child of a family, born 10 years after his elder sibling.

“We chose the name Hải Đăng, which means ‘lighthouse,’ to symbolize strength and resilience,” said the baby’s mother, Mien, while gently patting her newborn.

In Hanoi, at the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the first baby of 2025 was born at exactly midnight to mother To Thi Thuy Dung.

Named Nguyen To Tue Minh, the baby girl weighed 3.5 kg and was immediately placed skin-to-skin with her mother. Tue Minh, the second child of the family, was marked with wristband code 001 to commemorate her special timing. Professor Nguyen Duy Anh, the hospital director, personally cut her umbilical cord and presented gifts to the family.
He wished all mothers and babies good health, quick recovery, and thriving futures.

The hospital also reflected on its 2024 accomplishments, including the successful implementation of advanced medical techniques that saved many premature infants weighing as little as 400–500 grams.
