VietNamNet Bridge – Two Dak Lak officials have been reprimanded for hiring too many public school teachers.

Dak Lak Province’s Party Committee has warned Nguyen Thanh Dung, Secretary of Krong Pac District and Y Suon Bya, chairman of the district’s People’s Committee for wrongdoings relating to the employment of hundreds of teachers in Krong Pac District.

The warning was announced after a meeting of the committee on Tuesday to discuss disciplinary measures for the officials whose violations led to more than 600 teachers being made redundant.

Dung did not direct the district People’s Committee to implement planning for officials at public schools in 2010 - 2015, appointed school managers in 2015 without planning and hired 27 vice principals, teachers and school staff beyond the quota for public schools in the district.

He was also found to have not followed regulations on asset declaration and personal income in 2010, 2011 and 2013. 

Dung was also responsible for the violations of Nguyen Sy Ky, former secretary of the district’s Party Committee who signed 400 labour contracts in 2011-2015 despite the fact that the district was not permitted to recruit them.

Y Suon Bya, in his capacity as chairman of the district People’s Committee, was at fault for the signing of 197 labour contracts for teacher and school staff despite being asked to correct the mistakes by the former leader of the district.

Both Dung and Y Suon Bya were found to have delayed clarifying individuals’ responsibilities in the recruitment of redundant teachers, school staff and lacked determination in strengthening several positions in the locality. 

On March 9, Krong Pac District’s People’s Committee announced that they terminated the contracts of 600 teachers. Two hundred of them become jobless, as the province has no demand for teachers in their subjects.

The other 400 laid-off teachers are eligible for the upcoming employment exam to vie for 83 positions, meaning 317 will lose their jobs. The decision sparked anxiety amongst the teachers and drew nationwide attention.
