According to the report of the National Assembly Committee for People’s Aspiration, voters in many provinces are upset about China’s violations in the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea), particularly this country’s illegal construction of artificial islands in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracels), blatant fishing in waters of Vietnam, and attack of Vietnamese fishing boats.
Voters of the central province of Binh Dinh have asked the Foreign Ministry to take initiative and to closely coordinate with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to monitor the situation and to enlist the support of the international community to protect the country’s sovereignty.
Voters in 28 provinces asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take more drastic and feasible solutions to maintain independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, to enlist the support of friends and the international community to cope with the actions of China.
They also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to urgently complete legal procedures to sue China in the international court and to be more careful in the foreign policy, and to restrict compromise to ensure territorial integrity, national security, and national sovereignty.
Constituents also proposed to build and consolidate strong defense. The people of Dong Thap, Ha Nam, HCM City, Quang Tri, Ca Mau, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and Lao Cai proposed to increase investments in defense and the coast guard forces to protect sovereignty and assist fishermen in fishing and economic development.
Voters said that the Ministry of Defense should coordinate with related ministries to intensify patrols in the sea to protect Vietnamese fishermen in the fishing grounds of Vietnam.
Constituents also suggested increasing investment in infrastructure on Truong Sa.
