VietNamNet Bridge – In 2015, the Ministry of Information and Communications handled administrative violations committed by 37 press agencies and imposed fines totalling over VND1.5 billion ($70,000) on 33 cases.

According to information from the Ministry, in the last five years, the Ministry handled 242 violations of press agencies, of which 11 cases received a warning and 231 cases were given administrative fines totaling more than VND4.6 billion ($230,000).

The Ministry also suspended the operation for one month and revoked two licences for the establishment of online information pages of two press agencies and one domain name "vn".

The agency also revoked 121 press cards in the past five years, of which 95 press cards were withdrawn after the press agencies stopped operation or after the journalists changed their jobs and 26 cards were revoked as the card holders broke the press law.

In 2015, the Central Propaganda and Instruction Committee and the Ministry of Information and Communications received hundreds of complaints by individuals or organizations against the media. The two agencies considered and handled many cases under their competence.

In particular, the authorities gave a warning to nine cases; handled 14 cases of publishing false information, two cases of using erroneous Vietnam map, two cases describing barbaric acts and crimes in details, two cases of publishing superstitious information, seven cases of violating the regulations on advertising, and one case of using personal photos without consent.

In addition, the Ministry imposed fines on 18 cases of violation of the provision and use of information on the Internet, with the total amount of over VND777 million ($38,000).
