VN thrash Italy in badminton match

Viet Nam defeated Italy 5-0 in the second round of the Badminton World Federation Sudirman Cup yesterday (May 13) in China.

In the men's singles Level 3, Group B, Pham Cao Cuong beat Matteo Bellucci 21-14, 21-12.

Vu Thi Trang beat Ramona Gloria Pirvanescu 21-5, 21-3 in just 17 minutes to clinch her first win in the women's singles.

Duo Dao Manh Thang and Le Ha Anh, without any difficulty, trounced Bellucci and Giovanni Greco 21-13, 21-10 in the men's doubles.

Nguyen Thi Sen paired with Pham Nhu Thao to crush Pirvanescu and Lisa Iversen 21-8, 21-11 in the women's doubles.

In the mixed doubles, Duong Bao Duc and Thai Thi Hong Gam completed a perfect win for Viet Nam by beating Rosario Maddaloni and Karin Maran 21-17, 21-12.

In the next round, Viet Nam will play Australia who defeated Switzerland 3-2 yesterday.

An Giang lead cycling tournament

Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang emerged on top yesterday (May 13) as their cyclists won the stage and secured the leading position.

The team retained its position as the leader of the Return to the Countryside cycling tournament.

Nguyen Anh Khoa finished the 50-km fourth stage with 18 laps around Tran Hung Dao Street in Soc Trang City in 1.22.23hrs.

His teammate Pham Minh Triet and Tran Nguyen Duy Nhan of Military Zone 7 came second and third, respectively.

Nguyen Hoang Giang finished in the crowd with 9:53.01 best total time. Giang will wear the yellow jersey to start the fifth stage today.

Phan Tuan Vu of Can Tho and Triet were close behind.

Coming at fourth in the overall ranking, Khoa leads the green jersey race with 48 points.

With 29:41.21 total time, Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang top the team ranking. They are followed by An Giang Plant Protection and Vinh Long.

Today, the fifth stage (73km) begins from Soc Trang City to Can Tho City.

Military, Da Nang in tennis finals

Military defeated HCM City 1 2-0 in the first semi-final match of the National Team Tennis Championships in Hue City.

Huynh Chi Khuong beat Quang Tri 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the first singles match of the men's draw. Anh Khoa later beat Huu Vinh 6-2, 6-4 in the second singles.

In the second semis, Binh Duong lost 0-2 to Da Nang, with Tung Lam beating Vu Antern 6-3, 6-3 and Minh Tuan trouncing Hoang Hai 6-0, 6-0.

Military will play Da Nang in the final tomorrow, May 15.

On the women's side, HCM City 1 defeated Kien Giang 3-0, before HCM City 2 beat Da Nang 3-0 yesterday.
