The Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team of four won one more gold medal for Vietnam at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 19) in China after defeating their Indonesian rival on October 4.

After overcoming China 2-0 in the semifinal round, the Vietnamese team faced off against Indonesia in the final.

The first set of the final match witnessed a fierce competition for scores, with Indonesia leading right from the beginning of the game. It concluded with Indonesia’s winning 21-18.

The second and third set witnessed a strong comeback from Vietnamese girls as they recorded victories of 21-18 and 21-14, respectively. Overall, the Vietnamese team won 2-1 over Indonesia to win the gold medal.

It is the second time that Vietnam beat Indonesia in this Games. In their first meet in the group round, Vietnam won 2-1 on October 3. Earlier, Vietnam also beat Indonesia 2-0 in the world championship final match in July in Thailand.

Vietnamese sports placed the highest trust in sepak takraw. The four-member squad won the championship at the 2022 and 2023 world Sepak Takraw championships. They have since undergone intensive training in Thailand to sharpen their skills towards the gold medal target in China.

This is the second gold for Vietnam after one in shooting last week.

The gold also ended the team's 17 years waiting for a victory. The previous gold was taken at the 2006 ASIAD in Doha, Qatar.

Vietnam currently collected two golds, three silvers and 14 bronzes to place No 17 in the medal tally.
