According to the latest 10-day weather forecast from Vietnam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a weakening cold front will lead to prolonged drizzle and high humidity across Northern Vietnam.
However, another cold spell is expected to arrive between March 15-16. Meanwhile, Central and Southern Vietnam will experience scattered rain showers.
Meteorologists predict that the continental high-pressure system is shifting eastward, weakening and transforming. Around March 11-12, a low-pressure trough is likely to form between 24-27 degrees North latitude, linked to a westward-expanding low-pressure system.
This trough will later be compressed by cold air moving in from the North. By March 15-16, another reinforcement of cold air is expected.
At higher altitudes, the subtropical high-pressure system will gradually extend westward but is expected to weaken by March 14 and move eastward.
Weather conditions by region
Due to these evolving weather patterns, significant fluctuations are expected across the country:
Northwest Vietnam & North-Central Vietnam (March 10-14): Light rain in some areas, morning fog, and sunny afternoons. Around March 14-15, scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible. Early mornings and nights will be chilly between March 10-11 and cool from March 12-15. A cold snap may arrive on March 15-16.
Northeast Vietnam (March 10-14): Light rain in some areas, with dense fog and drizzle, particularly in coastal and lowland regions. March 10-11 will be cold in the early mornings and nights, while March 12-15 will remain cool. A cold snap is likely to bring lower temperatures after March 15-16.
Central and South-Central Vietnam (March 10-11): Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. From March 12-15, localized evening and nighttime rain, with sunny daytime weather. Between March 15-19, moderate to heavy rainfall may occur from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa.
Central Highlands & Southern Vietnam: Generally sunny with occasional showers. However, between March 10-11, scattered evening thunderstorms are expected.
Hanoi’s forecast (March 10-14):
Morning and night: Drizzle and dense fog.
Afternoon: Partly sunny.
March 10-11: Cold mornings and nights.
March 12-15: Cooler temperatures, with a chance of another cold snap after March 15-16.
Weather trends for March
Meteorologists anticipate that cold air waves will continue throughout March, though their intensity will be moderate rather than extreme. These cold fronts will cause short-lived cold spells and persistent drizzle, especially in northeastern Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Southern Vietnam is likely to experience prolonged heat waves, potentially extending into April.
