VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam has been ranked the sixth best country for solo travellers by US magazine Travel+Leisure.

The list was created based on two concerns for many solo travellers – safety and if the destination is a happy place.

The magazine used data from the Global Peace Index, which ranks 162 nations for their peacefulness, and the Happy Planet Index, which looks at the environment and people's well-being in 151 countries to measure where people live long and happy lives.

"The resulting 20 best destinations for solo travellers present an amazing mash-up of geography along with radically different cultures, languages, and customs," the magazine says.

Viet Nam ranks 45th in this year's Global Peace Index and second in the 2012 Happy Planet Index.

Other best countries for solo travellers include New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Austria, Chile, Japan, Sweden, Indonesia, Germany, Argentina, Canada, Finland, Laos, Panama, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, and the UK.
