At the last trading session of 2021, the main indexes on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) all increased compared to the beginning of the year. Specifically, the VN Index reached 1498.28 points, up 35.73%; VNAllshare hit 1,561.33 points, up 51.23%; and VN30 index rose to 1,535.71 points, up 43.42%.
The VN Index touched a new peak of 1,500.81 points on November 25, 2021, the highest in 21 years of operation.
The market liquidity in 2021 continuously broke new records, and the average trading value and volume reached over 21,593 billion VND and 737.29 million shares, up 247.27% in value and 120.43% in average volume compared to 2020.
On December 23, 2021, the market had a record trading session with trading value and volume reaching over 45,371 billion VND and more than 1.32 billion shares, respectively.
As of December 31, 2021, the total value and trading volume of shares reached about 5.39 quadrillion VND and 184.32 billion shares, increasing 244.51% in value and 118.68 percent in volume compared to 2020.
The market capitalization value at HOSE reached more than 5.8 quadrillion VND, equivalent to 92.77% of GDP in 2020, an increase of more than 43% compared to the end of 2020.
HOSE currently has 533 listed securities codes, including 404 stocks, three closed-end fund certificates, eight ETF certificates, 113 covered warrants and five bond codes. The total volume of listed shares is over 120.5 billion shares.
By the end of 2021, on HOSE, there were 46 companies with market capitalization of more than 1 billion USD, an increase of 16 enterprises compared to the end of 2020. There were three enterprises with capitalization over 10 billion USD, including: Vingroup (VIC), Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (VCB), and Vinhomes Joint Stock Company (VHM).
In 2021, the number of new investors rose sharply. The average number of new accounts opened every month was more than 100,000 accounts.
During the year, domestic investors opened 1,534,363 new accounts, equivalent to an increase of over 56% compared to 2020, much higher than the total number of four consecutive years from 2017 to 2020. The total number of trading accounts of domestic investors exceeded 4.2 million accounts, equivalent to about 4.3% of the population.
