Update news vietnam's seafood export
China became the second largest importer of Vietnamese seafood behind Japan in January, with shrimp and pangasius imports witnessing a four-fold rise compared to the same period last year.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has proposed eliminating quotas on shrimp exports to the Republic of Korea within the framework of the Vietnam-Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA) during the review period in 2024.
The country's tuna exports to the Republic of Korea (RoK) during the initial 7 months of 2023 reached more than US$7 million, increasing 2.5 times over the same period from last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Despite a downturn in the export of aquatic products in the first month of 2023, local exporters remain optimistic that the market will recover from the second quarter of this year.
According to VASEP, consumer demand for seafood in the Chinese market is increasing but domestic seafood supply is facing a shortage, which has led to an increase in seafood imports in recent years.
Vietnam’s export of aquatic products in July showed positive signs with an increase of 9 per cent year-on-year, particularly with exports of shrimp and other products rising, except for pangasius.
