VietNamNet Bridge – November 26 was the great day of the Vietnamese Pencak Silat team when its members won up to eight gold medals at the world championship 2012, bringing Vietnam to the top position.




Pencak Silat is the national martial arts of Indonesia, but the Indonesian national team lost the number-one position to Vietnam at the World Championships 2012, which took place from November 18 to 27 in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

In the performing events on November 25, the Vietnamese fighter won 5 silver medals. Things changed when the series of final games for the combat events took place on the night of November 26.

In this content, Vietnam had 11 fighters who entered the finale. Up to eight of them became the champions, including: Diep Ngoc Vu Minh (men’s under 50kg.) Tran Huynh Thanh Quoc (men’s over 95kg), Nhan Bao Phong (men’s under 60kg), Pham Van Ty (men’s under 75kg), Nguyen Duy Tuyen (men’s under 80kg), Truong Van Mao (men’s under 85kg), Nguyen Huong Xuan (men’s under 55kg), and Nguyen Thi Yen (women’s under 65kg).

Vietnam ranked first in the medal tally with 8 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze medals, followed by Indonesia with 3 gold and 4 silver medals.

This is not the first time Vietnam overwhelmed Indonesia. Vietnam won seven gold medals at the Southeast Asia Games in 1997 in Indonesia and won the top position.

On the world stage, Vietnam’s Pencak Silat team won the No. 1 position in 1998.
