6. The man who wants to help Vietnam become a major AI player 

Nguyen Xuan Phong, FPT Software's Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, obtained a master’s degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University and a doctorate in AI from Tokyo University, which are leading schools in technology and computer science.

Phong has published 20 scientific articles, and has eight patents registered for intellectual property (IP) protection together with Hitachi.

When Phong took the job of Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer, he was asked to develop FPT Software into one of the world’s top 50 AI labs.

He is happy because he can contribute to the country’s development. “I hope that my research work can influence business and create useful products for the society,” Phong said. 

For Phong, the opportunity to act as a bridge to bring AI training programs and introduce young Vietnamese talents to the world is an interesting challenge. In the AI Residency program, Phong and his coworkers created an in-depth research environment for elite Vietnamese students, giving them the opportunity to study and work directly with experts around the world. 

7. Humane Beauty Queen

H'Hen Nie is never hesitant to visit remote and poor areas

H'Hen Nie, born 1992, Ede ethnic minority, is not only an outstanding beauty, but also a symbol of kindness and diligence in charity work. Since being crowned Miss Universe Vietnam in 2017, she has used her influence to spread love and compassion throughout society. She proves that beauty lies not only in appearance but also in heart and positive will.

The young woman is never hesitant to visit remote and poor areas, which need help the most. She has changed the way people think about beauty and value of the beauty queen title.

She prioritizes sustainable projects such as planting forests, building friendly libraries and providing clean water to schools. In addition, she often actively participates in programs for youth and the community.

8. The female athlete who surpassed her own limits

At SEA Games 32, Nguyen Thi Oanh won four gold medals, including the two gold in two running distances with less than 30 minutes of rest. 

"Runway Supergirl"; or "Lungless Champion" were the nicknames fans called her. 

She showed extraordinary ability to successfully fulfill her tasks at the 32nd SEA Games. The runner from Bac Giang is a symbol of the perseverance and will to overcome difficulties of Vietnamese women.

In 2014, Oanh discovered that she had glomerulonephritis and muscle atrophy. Doctors said she had to leave her career. But with extraordinary determination, Nguyen Thi Oanh trained on her own, overcame the illness and made a wonderful comeback.

9. The woman who found a new wife for her former son-in law

Le Thi Sau, 59, in Quoc Oai district, Hanoi, was the mother in law of Nguyen Van Lich. Her daughter and Lich lived with her after their marriage. However, after several years, the couple decided to divorce. While her daughter left home for a new house which better facilitates her work, Sau decided to tell the old son-in-law to stay with her and her grandchildren in the house. 

Some years after the divorce, Lich wanted to marry another woman. Surprisingly, his decision was supported by the former mother-in-law. Sau came forward and organized a wedding for the former son-in-law. Lich’s new wife is a divorced woman who has one stepchild.

Sau welcomed the new wife of her former son-in-law and the stepchild. Three adults and three children (two children of Lich by the previous marriage and his new wife’s child) now live in harmony in Sau’s house.

10. The H'mong man who got rich from tourism development

Nearly 10 years ago, Trang A Chu, A H’mong ethnic minority man, left the city to return to his poor hometown. With VND30 million worth of capital, mostly borrowed money, A Chu decided to develop a homestay to receive tourists, the first homestay in Hua Tat Village.

After nearly a year, the homestay took shape, opening its doors to tour company groups in September 2015.

A Chu Homestay has since become famous and a trusted partner of many travel firms. He speaks Vietnamese with a H’mong accent, wears traditional linen shirts and wide-leg pants, serves travelers quickly, and always smiles when welcoming guests.

In May 2022, A Chu homestay was honored to receive Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who paid a business trip to the Northwest. A Chu has been awarded many certificates of merit from all levels, departments and branches recognizing his efforts and contributions to Van Ho tourism.
