In the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, Vietnam has eight out of eleven disciplines ranked globally, including Business and Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, and Life Sciences.

Vietnamese universities and their global achievements

In the Business and Economics category, several Vietnamese universities ranked prominently, with Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics leading in the 301–400 group.

Other notable institutions include Vietnam National University (VNU) Hanoi, Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, VNU Ho Chi Minh City, and Ho Chi Minh City Open University.

Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University also earned top national rankings in fields like Engineering, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

In Education Studies, VNU Hanoi stood out as the only Vietnamese institution included, ranking in the 401–500 group.

Vietnamese universities’ rankings in various fields include:

Business and Economics: Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (301–400), followed by several other top institutions.

Engineering: Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University lead nationally.

Life Sciences: Similar national leaders include Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University.

Physical Sciences: Duy Tan and Ton Duc Thang again achieved the highest rankings.

Global context and leading institutions

On a global scale, prestigious institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and Harvard University continue to dominate.

In 2025, MIT surpassed Stanford to claim the top position in fields like Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, and Social Sciences.

Stanford led in Education Studies, Law, and Psychology, while Harvard excelled in Engineering and Life Sciences.

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) topped the rankings for Physical Sciences, while Oxford University claimed leadership in Computer Science and Health Sciences.

Although no Asian university secured the top spot globally, several made it into the top 50.

The highest-ranked Asian institutions in 2025 include Peking University and Tsinghua University, which placed 4th and 6th, respectively, in the Business and Economics category.
