He is Bui Khoi Nguyen, a student at An Binh Primary School in Thu Duc City, HCM City, obtained the highest score at the competition for Pearson Edexcel 2023. He is among the top one percent of students gaining this achievement.

Nguyen said he has passion for numbers, and is attracted to solving difficult math questions. The schoolboy has been following the English intensive program which allows him to experience new studying method..

Asked what students need to do to obtain the highest score in mathematics, Nguyen said he likes self-study. If he faces difficult question, he will ask his elder brother, who also won a prize at the mathematics competition in 2022.

Besides Nguyen, Le Dinh Trung Hieu, a student at the Sai Gon Practice High School belonging to Sai Gon university, has obtained the highest scores in Vietnam in both math and science at the competition for secondary school students.

Hieu also said he pays attention to self-study and tries to master knowledge from the lessons given by foreign teachers. He also regularly tries to solve exam questions and seeks information from diverse learning materials of the integrated English program.

Hieu, who is now a 10th grader at the HCM City High School for the Gifted, said he began following the integrated English program when he was a fourth grader. Teachers are friendly and always ready to explain the issues that students want to learn about. In addition to receiving knowledge in different subjects, he can also experience the new learning method which encourages students creativity and independent thinking.

Pham Quang Triet, a 12th grader at Gia Dinh High School, also got the highest score in Vietnam at the competition for International GCSE certificates.

At the certificate awarding ceremony for the students in HCM City following the integrated English program, 100 percent of students got a ‘pass’ or higher results in mathematics at three education levels (primary, secondary and high). Of these, 86 percent of primary school students, 70 percent of secondary, and 84 percent of high school students obtained excellent results.

At the secondary education level, more than 96 percent got a ‘pass’ or higher results for sciences. At higher education level, 100 percent got a ‘pass’ or higher results in English and 99 percent in sciences.

Many students received high prizes thanks to their outstanding results. Nine students got Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards (for those who got highest scores in every learning subject), and 24 students got Excellence Awards (for those who got ‘excellent’ for three learning subjects – Mathematics, English and Sciences).
