Le Vu Hoang

Le Vu Hoang, born in 1988, represented Bo Trach High School No 1 at the 6th “Road to Olympia’. The audience was touched at the time by the image of a skinny guy standing next to a thatched cottage. Hoang vowed to study well to escape poverty.

As the winner at ‘Road to Olympia’, Hoang received a scholarship to study at Swinburne University of Technology. He came to Australia in 2007 and has been living and working there for more than 14 years.

Graduating in electronics and computing in 2011, he got a scholarship for a doctorate to study quantum optics and ultraviolet laser for four years.

Hoang once worked for a company manufacturing lighting equipment and stage lighting control instruments. He wanted to try the latest technologies to create products for practical use.

But he realized that “the market is a battlefield” where competition is stiff. Technology firms have to continuously develop new ideas to exist in a competitive world.

In early 2021, Hoang decided to take a risk when investing in a startup in Australia, specializing in thermal sensing products using a completely new technology – infrared sensor with a micro mirror system on a rotating platform. The company focuses on developing AI-based thermal sensing cameras for buildings, offices and factories.

Hoang said the company has received a lot of investment. Most recently, it got investment worth VND150 billion from Celesta and an order from Google to install cameras at its headquarters in the US.

Hoang also has a business of his own – XVISION Technology, specializing in IoT products for smart cities, smart agriculture and industry.

Deciding to start a business amid Covid-19 in many countries, Hoang believes that this was an opportunity to develop effective solutions. He has focused on manufacturing lighting management system equipment, and sensors for cities and environmental monitoring.

With the lighting management system, each lamp can be controlled in a smart way from a cloud computing system. It is integrated with a sensor system, including luminosity sensors and a time sensors to adjust the luminosity automatically.

According to Hoang, his company is the first business introducing smart lightening system using NB-IoT technology in Vietnam.

Responding to the criticism that very few ‘Road to Olympia’ winners return to Vietnam to work, Hoang affirmed that everyone can contribute to the homeland’s development, no matter where they live. He has a plan to bring technology to Vietnam to serve the community and contribute to the country’s development.
