Vietnamese judokas win bronze medals in Taipei championship

Vietnamese judo players won two bronze medals at the Asian Open Judo Championship in Chinese Taipei on Monday.

Van Ngoc Tu finished third in the women's U48-kilogram category and Nguyen Thi Quynh was placed third in the women's U52-kilogram class.

More than 200 judo players from 22 teams participated in the two-day-long judo tournament.

Hosts Chinese Taipei topped the overall ranking with three gold, four silver and six bronze medals. China and Russia were place second and third, respectively.

Liem leads Vietnamese team at Chess Olympiad

Grandmaster Le Quang Liem is leading the Vietnamese team at the 2014 Chess Olympiad taking place in Tromso, Norway from August 1-14.

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial tournament organized by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Within the event, teams from all over the world compete against each other in a Swiss format style competition. It is expected to attract some strong teams around the globe such as Russia, the US, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland and Germany.

Martial arts star to teach local coaches

Vietnamese-American mixed marital arts star Cung Le will hold an exhibition and give classes to coaches of the Saigon Sports Club and practitioners during a 10-day visit to the club next month in HCM City.

Le, an actor and former Sanshou kickboxer currently competing as a middleweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is visiting as part of his trip to the competition in Macau.

Le will hold classes in self-defence for marital arts followers and instructors.

Le is a former International Kickboxing Federation Light Heavyweight World Champion.

Before moving to mixed martial arts, he held a professional Sanshou record of 16-0. He also holds an undefeated kickboxing record of 17-0.
