Many Japanese technology firms are looking for workers from Vietnam

FPT University last August organized a meeting between Framgia, a Japanese IT firm, and 26 Japanese-language majors to find candidates for internships at partner companies.

Many other Japanese technology firms are also looking for workers from Vietnam.

According to Vu Thi Thu Hang from Framgia, 26 students will have internship periods at three companies – Sublime, Karakami and Moonpon in Japan.

Bui Nhat Thuy, one of the candidates, said she is studying Japanese language, so working as receptionist would be a suitable job. 

Meanwhile, the third-year student Nguyen Nhan said she has been dreaming of living and working in Japan since childhood.

“I will try my best to work and experience life during my one-year stay in the country,” she said.

Quynh Na, another candidate, said this would be a great opportunity to help her study, communicate and practice Japanese. The Japanese side has promised to create more favorable conditions for FPT students by giving stipends, accommodations and air tickets.

Analysts commented that the recent strengthening of cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese IT firms will create a new wave of Vietnamese workers going to Japan to study and work.

NAL Japan is one of the Vietnamese-owned IT firms in Japan. Its CEO Nguyen Tuan Anh came to Japan to study in 2002.

Anh worked for two Japanese IT firms to get experience and skills before setting up NAL Vietnam in late 2013 and NAL Japan in 2014.

The young CEO believes that with strong support from the Japanese government and the growing trend of Japanese leaving China for Vietnam, Japanese demand for Vietnamese IT workers will increase sharply.

After four years of establishment, NAL now has six subsidiaries with offices in Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan and Hanoi, Da Nang and Hue in Vietnam.

With an aim to connect Vietnamese people in Japan, three young people Tran Thanh Thuy, Le Viet Gia Khanh and Ta Viet Phuong have set up Vietnamese Professionals in Japan (VPJ), for Vietnamese in Japan to meet and exchange view about jobs and life. 

Japan, which is seriously lacking workers, is strengthening the recruitment of foreign engineers. This will bring great opportunities to Vietnam, where 55,000 IT engineers are produced each year.

FPT Software alone has 1,000 workers working at five offices in Japan and 5,000 workers implementing projects ordered by Japanese clients. In 2018, the firm needs 2,000 more workers to serve the Japanese market.
