Vietnamese high-tech products are not favored by domestic consumers, and Vietnamese high-tech product distributors are weak at both capital and brands.
However, Vietnam-made products still can cement their firm positions in the home market if their owners can follow professional marketing strategies.
The Vietnamese hi-tech product that is now attracting the highest attention from the public is BPhone – a product of BKAV Group (Bach Khoa Anti-virus Center).
Though BKAV has had to recall 3,000 delivered BPhones to perfect the operating system and camera software, and it has delayed the delivery time, BPhone still can list itself among the best sellers.
Nearly 12,000 BPhones were ordered online just a short time after the product was launched.
Vong Thanh Cuong, the founder and managing director of Boomerang, a well-known name in social media, said the number of comments about BPhone since May 25 had reached 768,542, triple the number of comments about the iPhone.
The negative feedback about BPhones accounted for 36 percent of the total comments at the time before the delivery trouble began, while the proportion rose to 58 percent after that.
However, Boomberang has found that the negative feedback mostly came from high-tech product fans, while the majority of popular users like the BPhone.
The success of BPhone shows that with right marketing strategy and a high-quality product, Vietnamese high-tech products can sell well.
“Vietnamese don’t turn their back on Vietnamese-made high-tech products. They will use Vietnam-made products if the products have reasonable quality and prices,” Cuong commented.
Mobiistar, another Vietnamese brand, has also become well known in the Vietnamese market. A report from FPT Shop, a distribution brand, showed that Mobiistar ranks third in the list of five bestsellers in its distribution chain.
GeeAudio, a project to develop headsets for smart mobile devices run on Android and iOS operating systems, could also become well known.
Mai Phu Phong, the owner of PhonGee Shop, said a set of headphones for Apple and Samsung products is priced at VND800,000 on the market.
Therefore, if GeeAudio’s products can satisfy the users’ requirements, they can be sold at about VND1 million.
An analyst said Vietnamese manufacturers need to win consumers’ confidence.
Mobiistar, for example, has decided to cooperate with famous rocker Pham Anh Khoa to develop its products.
