VietNamNet Bridge – Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones have been welcomed warmly by Vietnamese for their design and hardware.
The phones were introduced at an event in Barcelona on March 1. Vietnamese telecom engineers praised the products but said they did not yet know the selling price.
Tran Manh Hiep, the administrator of TinhTe, a telecoms forum, said the design and materials for the Galaxy S6s are now at the level of phones made by HTC, Sony and Apple.
Hiep said that previously Samsung’s products lagged far behind their rivals in terms of designs and materials.
“Now with the new designs, Samsung fans feel better and find phones are worth the money they spend,” he said.
Galaxy S6, which is expected to replace Galaxy S5 as the leading product of the South Korean manufacturer, has design features quite different from the existing Samsung models.
S6 has a back cover made of glass and the phone body’s edge is made of metal. Existing Samsung models are made of plastic. The battery cover is not removable like the S5’s cover.
Hiep also noted that S6 attracts Vietnamese because of the large memory (32/64/124GB) and the “touch-not swipe screen induction technology”.
Meanwhile, Tuan Anh, a sci-tech reporter at VnExpress, noted that both S6 and S6 Edge have sophisticated designs and he especially was impressed by the loudspeakers and USB microphone port. Both of them are also very slim.
As for technical features, Anh said that S6 and S6 Edge have all the most important things that a modern smartphone needs – super-sharp screen, good camera and battery and powerful chip, and RAM 3GB.
Nguyen Xuan Thanh, an editor of Nghe Nhin (Audio and Vision) journal, a well-known technology publication, said: “These (S6 and S6 Edge) are the products consumers expect from Samsung.”
Tran Quoc Huy from Zing.vn noted that the changes of S6 and S6 Edge show that Samsung “listened to users and made changes to satisfy them”.
However, S6’s “overly powerful configuration, multi-core chip, high resolution” concern Anh, but the 2.500 - 2.600 mAh battery of S6 could fit the features.
Thanh said the suggested retail price of $1,200 was “too high”.
iPhone 6 was sold for prices as high as VND49 million (USD2,300) each when it first appeared in Vietnam in September 2014.
Prices for the coveted gadget varied from VND24 million (USD1,142) to VND49 million (USD2,300), depending on the amount of storage.
