This is the highest achievement the Vietnamese team have recorded so far.

The local athletes won most of its gold medals in sanda (sanshou), with three golds awarded to Huynh Do Dat in the men’s 70kg, Nguyen Thi Lan in the women’s 48kg, and Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy in the women’s 60kg.

Meanwhile, Dang Tran Phuong Nhi took two gold medals in taolu on November 19.

In the women’s nanquan, Nhi's impressive performance earned her the highest score of 9.786 points among all eight competitors, clinching the gold medal. 

She later bagged another gold medal in the women's nangun taolu after recording the highest score of 9.760 points.

The 19-year-old athlete also obtained a silver medal in the women's nandao taolu with 9.743 points.

The HYX 16th World Wushu Championships (WWC) was held in Texas, USA, bringing together more than 500 athletes from 72 countries and territories worldwide. There were 11 sets of medals on offer in the men's taolu category and an equal number for the women's taolu category.

In the 2019 competition, Vietnamese athletes only grabbed one gold, four silver, and four bronze medals.

The WWC is an international sports championship hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) for the sports of wushu taolu and sanda (sanshou). It has been held biennially since 1991 and is the pinnacle event of the IWUF.
