Thunderbolts

Vietnamese moviegoers will be among the first in the world to experience Thunderbolts, the highly anticipated Marvel Studios blockbuster, as it premieres on April 30 - five days ahead of the global launch.

The film serves as the final chapter of Phase Five in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and paves the way for Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

The movie follows a team of former assassins and super soldiers forced to unite against a catastrophic threat, one so powerful it surpasses the Avengers themselves.

Following the disbandment of the Avengers after Avengers: Endgame (2019), Earth is left vulnerable to internal and external threats. This is when CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) steps in, proposing a “new, reliable superhero.” She appears to be the mastermind behind a dangerous experiment that leads to the creation of Sentry (Lewis Pullman).

Valentina introduces Sentry as stronger than all Avengers combined, earning him the title of “Earth’s mightiest superhero.” In the original comics, Sentry gains his godlike powers from a mysterious serum, granting him the energy of “a million exploding suns.”

In practice, Sentry’s abilities are virtually divine. Beyond super strength, speed, durability, reflexes, and senses, he can manipulate reality and matter, use heat vision and X-ray vision, perceive telepathically, become invulnerable, control objects with his mind, teleport, heal rapidly, become invisible, and generate illusions. He can even create life, achieve immortality, and resurrect himself.

However, with such overwhelming powers comes a dark side - The Void, an evil alter ego that can emerge at any moment. This appears to be the central conflict in Thunderbolts, where Sentry transforms into The Void and seeks to annihilate humanity. A single gesture from The Void can reduce people to mere black smudges on the ground.

With no Avengers left, Valentina assembles a team of notorious killers: Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Black Widow/Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), U.S. Agent/John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost/Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian/Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), and Taskmaster/Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko). These once-lethal operatives are now humanity’s unlikely protectors.

Despite their elite combat skills, the Thunderbolts are no match for Sentry. The trailer showcases explosive action sequences as the team confronts a nearly godlike enemy.

Thunderbolts will have special early screenings at 7 p.m. on April 30 and officially opens nationwide in Vietnam on May 2. The film will release globally starting May 5.
