A host of Vietnamese beauty queens including Miss International Queen Huong Giang, Miss Earth Phuong Khanh and Top 5 Miss Universe finalist H’Hen Nie have attracted attention and have won praise from foreign media outlets throughout the year.
Huong Giang, the Vietnamese representative at Miss International Queen 2018, was crowned at the grand finale of the pageant in Pattaya, Thailand on March 9. She became the first Vietnamese entrant to win the grand prize in a transgender pageant. Many foreign media outlets were keen to know more about her and she received lots of compliments including from AFP, Huffington Post, and Taiwan News. Tran Tieu Vy, 18, from the central province of Quang Nam outshone 42 other finalists to win the grand prize of Miss Vietnam 2018 at the finale held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 16. Vy stands at 1.74 meters tall and measures 84-63-90. She received praise from international media outlets such as QQ (China), Koreaboo (the Republic of Korea), Asia Times, Missosology, and Global Beauties. During the Miss World 2018 beauty pageant she finished in the Top 30, leaving a fantastic impression on viewers in China. She also won a place among the Top 30 in the talent segment, Top 32 in the Top Model segment and Top 5 in the Beauty with a Purpose segment. Phuong Khanh won the crown of Miss Earth 2018 at the finale in the Philippines on November 3. She became the first Vietnamese to win the title. This is the first time a Vietnamese representative has won the top prize in one of the world’s 6 major beauty contests. A lot of foreign media praised the beautiful 24-year-old girl from Ben Tre Province. Minh Tu finished in the Top 10 of Miss Supranational 2018. She left a good impression on both international media and viewers. Tu received an award from global beauty website Missosology for drawing in the highest number votes from fans worldwide. Miss Universe Vietnam H’Hen Nie was ranked in a high positions by famous websites Missosology and Global Beauties during her journey at Miss Universe 2018. After achieving a Top 5 finish at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant, the 26-year-old ethnic Ede girl received compliments from media outlets, not only in Asia, but throughout the world. She won praise for portraying a simple daily life, efforts to overcome challenges and her kindness in donating her entire bonus to charity. Vietnamese singer Orange was honoured as Best New Asian Artist at the Mnet music awards (MAMA) on December 10 held in the Republic of Korea. Singer Huong Tram was also named as Best Asian Artist at the Mnet music awards (MAMA) on December 14. Artists Orange and Huong Tram captured the attention of the international media. The Vietnamese men’s football team lifted the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on December 15 after defeating Malaysia 3-2 in the final. A series of foreign media including AFP, Fox Sports, Straits Times, Malay Mail, and No Cut News praised the magnificent efforts of the Vietnamese footballers and superb tactics of head coach Park Hang Seo. The RoK’s SBS channel even broadcast the second-leg final match between Vietnam and Malaysia live. Vietnamese fans celebrating the national team’s victory also impressed the international media. Fox Sports Asia, along with websites from the RoK, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia posted images of Vietnamese fans celebrating the triumph across the country. |
