Vietnamese designer Phan Dang Hoang recently made waves at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025, showcasing his new collection, "Ceramics," at the prestigious Royal Palace of Milan. The collection, inspired by the work of Vietnamese silk painter Nguyen Phan Chanh and traditional ceramics, beautifully blends classic Eastern artistry with Western techniques.
The collection, which features 40 designs, reimagines the image of Vietnamese women from 100 years ago, offering a fresh, modern perspective while maintaining a connection to traditional values. Through these designs, Phan Dang Hoang aimed to portray the elegance, grace, and inner strength of Vietnamese women from the past century.
The "Ceramics" collection takes inspiration from Nguyen Phan Chanh’s silk paintings, with a focus on harmonious color palettes and fluid, graceful forms. The designs reflect the softness of silk paintings through materials like chiffon, organza, and crepe, while also incorporating robust fabrics like denim, leather, and cotton, representing the strength and versatility of the modern woman.
In his designs, Hoang skillfully uses the colors and textures found in traditional Vietnamese art, blending hues such as earthy browns, olive greens, and bright reds. The pieces are accentuated with modern twists, such as bold cut-outs and intricate knot details, while maintaining a balance between classic and contemporary elements.
Phan Dang Hoang, born in 2000, graduated from the prestigious Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan. He first gained international recognition in 2022 when his collection was featured at Afro Fall/Winter Fashion Week, with coverage in Vogue Italy. In 2023, his collection "Sculpture" further established his name at Milan Fashion Week.
Recently named in Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30 list in the Arts category, Phan Dang Hoang continues to push the boundaries of fashion, drawing from his Vietnamese heritage while incorporating global trends and techniques.
