VietNamNet Bridge – It is shocking news for Vietnam sports when Nguyen Truong Tai, a cyclist of the national team, has been detected positive for banned substances at the Tour de Singkarak 2013 this June in Indonesia.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) on July 30 informed Vietnamese cyclist Nguyen Truong Tai that he was positive for the substance Prednisone, which is on the list of banned substances of the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA).

Accordingly, the sample A of Nguyen Truong Tai was positive for Prednisone at the bicycle race Tour de Singkarak Basin which took place in June 2013 in Indonesia.

At this tournament, the Vietnamese cycling team included six riders, including Mai Nguyen Hung, Le Van Duan, Trinh Duc Tam, Bui Minh Thuy, Nguyen Thanh Tam and Nguyen Truong Tai. Tai was randomly tested and he was positive for banned substances.

Tai said: "This tournament took place a long time ago so I cannot remember the food or drugs that I took. I used supplements that all members in the team use. Once I used painkillers."

"I am also surprised with the testing results. Upon receipt of the notice, I sent all the samples of the drugs I have used so far to the Dong Thap Cycling Club for research. I mean I did not mean to use banned substances, perhaps it was an accident," he explained.

Meanwhile, coach Nguyen Huy Hung of the national cycling tea said that Vietnam will ask WADE to test the sample B of Tai.

Prednisone is in the group of medicines with anti-inflammatory effects, anti-allergies, pain relief, stimulating the nervous system causing excitement for the athletes, so it is banned by WADA.

According to the statement from the UCI, within 7 days after receiving the notice, Tai’s B sample must be tested. If the test is positive, Tai will surely receive severe punishment from UCI and it will causes bad image for the country's sports.
