VietNamNet Bridge – More than 190 children between 10 and 16 from 30 cities and province will gather in Ha Noi tomorrow (Aug 5) for an annual three-day forum to empower kids' voices.

Lang nghe tre em noi (Listen to Children) is a national forum for children to express their ideas and aspirations as a way to put their stamp on national legislation. The forum is an exercise in children's' rights to participate in national life.

"In June and July, thousands of children attended the forums at different levels," said Dang Hoa Nam, Director of the Department of Child Protection and Care under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) at a press briefing yesterday.

"The children had opportunities to meet and have dialogues with local authorities and officials from their localities. They spoke about the results of and challenges to ensuring child protection and care, and the actualisation of children's rights," he said.

At the forum this year, participants will be given information and have opportunities to evaluate ministries and sectors' implementation of recommendations and messages of children from previous forums.

The opening ceremony will take place tomorrow afternoon. The children will then meet and have a dialogue with leaders from the Party, State, ministries and sectors at a session on Saturday morning.

MOLISA will report to the Prime Minister and relevant sectors on the recommendations and messages of children at the forum this year.

The Viet Nam children's forum is co-organised by MOLISA and the National Assembly's Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children. This year marks the fourth forum of its kind.
