The two State leaders have agreed upon a score of specific measures to enhance bilateral cooperation and organize various activities marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Argentina.




During talks with his Argentinean counterpart Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in Hanoi on January 21, President Sang voice his confidence that her visit will help deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He thanked the Argentinean Government and people for their solidarity and valuable support for Vietnam during its past struggles for national dependence and reunification, and their help in the country’s current national construction and defence.

Sang applauded the progress made in bilateral ties over the years, affirming that Vietnam wants to further deepen its strategic comprehensive partnership with Argentina.

Cristina expressed her admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national independence, freedom and reunification as well as the country’s renewal achievements.

She also praised Vietnam’s international status and prestige, adding that Argentina treasures its friendship and cooperation with Vietnam in its Asia-Pacific-oriented policy, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, energy, bio-technology and pharmaceuticals.

The two leaders agreed that the two countries will work together to organise activities marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year, while making full use of existing mechanisms such as inter-governmental cooperative committees and political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

The two sides will implement specific cooperation programmes on industry, agriculture, science and technology, energy, telecommunications, oil and gas, culture and forensic anthropology, they said.

Regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, they agreed that territorial sovereignty disputes should be solved by peaceful means on the basis of international law.

Both leaders also agreed that Vietnam and Argentina will continue to consult and coordinate with each other at international organisations and multilateral forums such as the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) to protect the interests and elevate the position of each nation, as well as actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the two regions and the world.

The same day, the Argentinean President visited President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and laid wreaths at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs in Hanoi.

PM Dung greets Argentinean President




Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed Vietnam’s desire to further strengthen cooperative relations with Argentina substantially and effectively.

At a January 21 reception for Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Dung praised the outcome of talks between the foreign leader and President Truong Tan Sang, saying President Cristina’s visit is a milestone elevating Vietnamese-Argentinean relations to a higher level.

Dung thanked Argentina for its valuable support and assistance during Vietnam’s past struggles for national liberation, as well as its interest in Vietnam’s ongoing socio-economic development process.

All elements of Vietnam- Argentina cooperation have grown steadily in recent years, delivering practical benefits to both sides. Vietnam always welcomes collaboration and investment from Argentinean businesses, Dung said.

He hopes the two nations will promote their political and diplomatic ties, offer each other support at regional and international forums—especially at the UN—and improve bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, education, and culture. Both countries want two-way trade turnover to exceed US$1 billion.

The Argentinean President expressed pleasure at the positive developments in Vietnam-Argentinean relations, saying that her country wants to intensify cooperation with Vietnam across a variety of fields but especially in farm produce processing, energy, mechanical engineering, and leather and footwear.

Cristina said she wants Vietnam to engender favourable conditions for Argentinean businesses to invest in the areas complementing Argentina’s strengths and Vietnam’s demands.

Geographical distance will not hamper strong bilateral ties in various fields if both nations make combined efforts to capitalise on their friendship and goodwill, Cristina said.

At a reception for the Argentinean President the same day, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Sinh Hung said the Vietnamese NA wishes to develop bilateral parliamentary relations with other countries, including Argentina. It supports and makes every effort to create conditions for the continuous development of the two countries’ ties to benefit people from both countries, as well as for peace and prosperity in the world, he added.

The top NA legislator spoke highly of the results of talks between the guest and Vietnamese leaders, in which the two sides agreed on a number of cooperation issues to improve bilateral ties.
