The team entered the final day of competition, December 9 with the hope of winning a gold medal in the team’s event.
Victory finally smiled with the Vietnamese team when five athletes - Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan, Nguyen Thi Xuan Linh, Nguyen Thien Phung and Le Thanh Trung scored 7.97 points to win the championship. The Philippines ranked second and China came third.
After that, the duo who had been the three-time world champions, Nguyen Dinh Toan and Nguyen Minh Tu, competed in the men doubles’ freestyle event (U29) and won a silver medal though they constantly took the lead from the qualifier until the final round.
A Chinese duo usurped the championship of Toan and Tu, with the score of being only 0.015 point higher.
At the end of the tournament, the Vietnamese team won one gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Leaving Colombia, the Vietnamese taekwondo team will go to Laos to attend the Southeast Asian Student Championships on December 17-18.
