Young Vietnamese track and field star Nguyen Thi Oanh has taken first place in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the recent 16th Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Taipei, China.
With a personal time of 10’27.29s, Oanh broke her own record of 10’30.92s she set at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar last year which garnered her a silver medal.
Meanwhile, her Vietnamese teammate Hoang Thi Ngoc secured a bronze medal in the women’s 400m walking competition, clocking in at 55.36s.
Duong Huu Tin came in sixth in the men’s 10,000 walking race with 50’50.02s.
Trinh Thi Thu Mai also ranked sixth in the women’s 100m hurdles and Vu Thi Ly placed seventh in the women’s 800m walking.
With one gold and one bronze medal, Vietnam placed tenth overall at the championships.
The tournament attracted competitors from 23 countries from around the globe.
