The Ministry of Education and Training announced on May 31 that Vietnamese students won seven silver medals at the Olympiad that was held online by Innopolis University, a Russian higher education institution, helping Vietnam to rank 8th among the South Asian and Western Pacific countries participating in the contest.
The medal winners include Bui Hong Duc, Vu Hoang Kien, and Nguyen Minh Tung from HUS High School for Gifted Students – Vietnam National University in Hanoi, Thai Xuan Dang from Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Students in Quang Tri province, Hoang Phan Huu Duc from Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students in Nghe An province, Nguyen Minh Quan from Hung Yen High School for Gifted Students in Hung Yen province and Tran Quoc Viet from Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students in Nam Dinh province.
The Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad 2019 was held online on May 18 with the participation of 660 students from 31 countries and territories in the South Asian and Western Pacific region.
The Vietnam team included 15 contestants, with seven of them winning silvers.
