The Vietnamese team with one gold medal ranked 44th at the Youth Olympic Games 2014 that closed in Namjing, China, on August 28.
The team also brought home one silver medal.
At the previous games in 2010, Vietnam ranked 41st with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
The 13-day Games drew 3,600 athletes from 201 teams competing in 28 sports for 222 gold medals.
China topped the total ranking with 38 gold medals, followed by Russia with 27 golds, and the USA with 10 golds.
The Youth Olympic Games 2018 will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
