Despite Vietnam's strong attack from the beginning, Bangladesh stood strong in the most part of the first half until captain Nguyen Ngo Thao Nguyen rose highest to nod home Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu’s corner kick for the opening goal four minutes into the interval.

It was 2-0 for the host at the 64th minute when Hieu pounced on a poor clearance before drilling the ball into the back of the net.

In the other match of the group, Australia bounced back to trounce the Philippines 6-2.

Nina Mathelus's brace pushed the Philippines ahead just 12 minutes into the game, promising a bright start for her side.

However, Australia took their time to settle into the tie with Grace Kuilamu reducing the deficit at the half hour mark. Ruby Cuthbert then equalised in the 42nd minute.

Despite their best efforts, Philippines had no answer to Australia’s aggression in the second half as they fell further behind in the 46th minute to Shelby Mcmahon’s effort.

Lillian Skelly, Talia Younis and Mikayla Duong scored one each to complete the resounding victory for the young Matildas.

Australia topped the table with better goal difference compared to Vietnam. The duo will play each other in the next game on September 22. Later, Bangladesh will face the Philippines.
