Vietnam’s head coach Park Hang-seo said the upcoming game won’t be easy for his team but Vietnam are very confident of an away win despite the fact Myanmar have been playing well at the ongoing event.
“Myanmar have good tactics. They played very impressively in the two previous matches. In recent years, Myanmar have raised many young talents,” said Park.
Myanmar, Vietnam and Malaysia all have six points but Myanmar top the group thanks to goals scored.
Myanmar beat Cambodia 4-1 and came from behind to beat Laos 3-1, while Vietnam defeated Laos 3-0 and Malaysia 2-0.
Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong said: “The upcoming game will be very difficult for us. This is an away match so we will try our best to take the points,” said Phuong.
“I have scored two goals in two matches, and that’s given me confidence. I am in good form so I will try everything to help my team win.”
Phuong, who is one of the top scorers for V.League 1 side Hoang Anh Gia Lai, emphasized that he and his teammates will be keeping a close eye on Myanmar’s key striker Aung Thu.
The 22-year-old plays for Police Tero in the Thai League 1. He scored his first international goal for Myanmar in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Thu, who won the AFF Youth Player of the Year in 2015, has scored one goal so far at the event.
"I know Thu well because I have faced him several times. He is a good player with the ability to control ball and score goals. However, coach Park has plans to subdue him,” Phuong added.
Myanmar coach Antoine Hey said his side would also be after three points in Yangon to win a place in the semi-finals.
Hey said in the matches with Cambodia and Laos, Myanmar had shown some weaknesses that needed to fix for the upcoming game.
"Myanmar want all three points on home turf. We play attack from the opening whistle. We hope to secure a win for the fans,” said Hey.
Today, Myanmar will be without defender Thein Than Win due to suspension following yellow cards against Cambodia and Laos.
