Vietnam tops Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Champs

Vietnam triumphed at the 47th Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships in HCM City, winning a total of 10 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze medals.

Although Le Ba Trang only took a gold medal for Vietnam on September 1, the final day of the three-day competition, it helped the hosts secure first place on the medal tally, followed by Thailand and India.

It’s worth noting that with a gold medal in the men’s 55kg category Hercules Pham Van Mach has gone down in history of Vietnam’s bodybuilding, raising his Asian gold medal collection to 8 and overtaking his successor Ly Duc.

Other Vietnamese gold winners at the event included Nguyen Van Lam in the men’s 65kg, Nguyen Anh Thong in the men’s 60kg, Nguyen Van My in the men’s junior 60kg, Pham Duc  Dai in the men’s junior 70kg, Tran Thi Cam Tu in the women’s under 155 cm fitness, Trinh Phi Hung in the men’s 55-60 age category, Nguyen Kim Hung in the men’s under 1m60 fitness, and Truong Quoc Long in the men’s under 1m65 fitness.

This year’s tournament attracted more than 350 athletes from 27 countries and territories across Asia, including Vietnam, China, Iran, India,

Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia and Jordan.

They competed for 36 sets of medals for both men and women in fitness physique, model physique, athletic physique, and various weight and age categories for bodybuilding.

Dong Thap hosts world shuttlecock champs

The 7th World Shuttlecock Championship (WSC) kicked off in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on September 2.

This year’s tournament attracted 104 athletes from 13 countries and territories around the world, including Australia, China, Taiwan (China), Italy,

India, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Singapore, Macau (China), Hong Kong (China), and the host Vietnam.

The athletes were competing in singles, doubles and team events for both men and women under the guidance of 33 referees.

During the tournament, which will last through to September 5, a number of cultural and art events will take place, such as a photographic exhibition on lotus, a cultural exchange, and a music and dance performance.

Vietnam lost to Malaysia in U16 SEA Champs

Vietnam’s dream of playing a final match of the U16 Southeast Asia (SEA) Football Championships turned sour after they lost 1-0 to Malaysia in a semi-final match on August 31.

Defender Huu Tuan’s own goal in the 73rd minute jeopardized Vietnam’s hope, meaning Vietnam will take on Australia for a third position in a clash on September 2.

Entering the game, Vietnamese players looked comfortable, carving out more scoring chances than their physically strong Malaysian opponents.

However, their efforts were in vain due to the heavy rain and slippery ground and the poor conditions made it difficult for them to perform to their usual standard.

In the 73rd minute, Vietnam conceded an own goal when the ball bounced directly from defender Huu Tuan’s leg into the net.

In another semi-final match, Indonesia surprisingly outplayed Australia 5-4 in the penalty shootout after the game ended in a two-all draw in 90 minutes.

National Archery Excellence tournament begins today

The Viet Nam Shooting Federation (VSF) will hold the National Archery Excellence tournament in Soc Trang Province from today.

The competition, which runs until September 11, will feature two individual categories: one-stringed bow and three-stringed bow. Each competitor is limited to compete in only one category.

Men will compete in the 30m, 50m, 70m and 90m, while women in the 30m, 50m, 60m and 70m.

The best archers in this tournament will be selected for the national team to compete for Viet Nam worldwide.

Hanoi tops National Springboard Championship

The Hanoi team posted a first place finish at the 2013 National Springboard Championship, which wrapped up at the Water Sport Hall of the My Dinh National Sport Complex in Hanoi on September 1.

Hanoi took home six gold, six silver and five bronze medals, while Ho Chi Minh City finished second with four gold, three silver and four bronze medals, followed by Hai Phong with a silver and a bronze.

The four-day tournament attracted 18 athletes from Hanoi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City who competed for ten sets of medals in the men’s singles and doubles 3m springboard events, as well as men’s singles 1m springboard events.

The National Springboard Championships offered a good opportunity for local athletes to sharpen their skills and for scouts to select the best divers for the national team.
