The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has announced the 2025 stamp program, which includes a total of 12 stamp sets comprising 27 individual designs and four stamp blocks.

Details of the commemorative releases

Among the notable releases, two sets will commemorate individuals: one marking the centennial of composer Nguyen Van Ty (1925–2025) and another celebrating 550 years since the birth of Michelangelo (1475–2025). These are scheduled for release in March 2025.

Six thematic sets, featuring 19 designs and two blocks, will focus on various topics, including Binh Thuy Communal House (Can Tho), Blood Donation, Squirrels, Vietnamese Venomous Snakes, Central Highlands Landscapes, and Lunar New Year (Tet Binh Ngo). These will be released sequentially from May to December 2025.

The four commemorative sets for major events will highlight:

50 years since the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025): 2 designs and 1 block.

100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (1925–2025): 1 design.

80 years of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025): 1 design and 1 block.

80 years since the first general election of the National Assembly of Vietnam (1946–2026): 2 designs.

Historical significance of stamps

The liberation of southern Vietnam and reunification have been depicted in several historic stamp issues. In December 1976, the "1975 General Offensive" set featured three key victories of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign: the liberation of Buon Me Thuot (March 12, 1975), Da Nang (March 29, 1975), and Saigon (April 30, 1975). This six-design set reflected the triumphs that led to national reunification.

Subsequent issues celebrating reunification include:

Unified Vietnam and Unified National Assembly, both released in 1976.

10th Anniversary of Reunification in 1985.

Commemorating Historical Days in 1987.

These stamps not only recorded Vietnam’s historic milestones but also served as cultural ambassadors, promoting the nation’s history and identity globally.

Collector anticipation and future suggestions

Veteran stamp collectors eagerly anticipate the 2025 releases, particularly the set commemorating 50 years since reunification. However, some collectors have expressed hopes for a broader variety of thematic stamps, particularly those highlighting Vietnam’s cultural heritage, traditional crafts, and iconic tourism destinations.

In 2024, the MIC issued 17 stamp sets, including two special releases:

70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954–2024), issued on May 5, 2024.

80th Anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (1944–2024) and 35th Anniversary of the All-People’s National Defense Day (1989–2024), issued on December 18, 2024.

These 2024 sets, alongside others like the one marking the 70th Anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation, underscored Vietnam’s rich history and cultural heritage while enhancing its global presence.
