On the morning of April 8, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired a meeting of the interagency task force on enhancing cooperation and proactively adapting to changes in U.S. economic and trade policies.

After hearing reports from various ministries and agencies, the Deputy Prime Minister called on task force members to continue diplomatic engagement across all channels with the United States in order to identify solutions that suit Vietnam’s circumstances and align with the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

He instructed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to thoroughly review and tightly monitor the origin of exported goods to prevent any unfortunate incidents.

The Ministry of Finance was tasked with enhancing customs information sharing with the U.S., particularly regarding trade defense and tax evasion issues. It will also complete a proposal for reducing import tariffs and begin building a bilateral agreement with the U.S. that goes beyond the existing BTA. The new framework should include expanded provisions on taxation and intellectual property rights.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to review domestic regulations related to copyright, intellectual property, and other areas of U.S. concern.

Regarding non-tariff issues, relevant ministries were directed to examine legal frameworks and propose the removal of unreasonable provisions affecting both domestic and foreign investors.

The task force leader also called for a comprehensive support plan for businesses, intensified trade promotion in new markets, and more robust dissemination of market policies - especially regarding the 17 free trade agreements Vietnam has signed.
