On the afternoon of April 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a press conference to announce Vietnam's upcoming role as host of the 2025 Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit, under the theme "Sustainable green transformation centered on people."
Established in 2017 at the initiative of Denmark, the P4G forum aims to align policy, foster public-private partnerships, and connect governments, businesses, and civil society organizations to promote green growth and support the implementation of global sustainable development goals.
P4G cooperation currently prioritizes key areas including food loss and waste reduction, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water management, renewable energy, and zero-emission transportation.
The partnership includes nine member countries - Denmark, Vietnam, South Korea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and South Africa - alongside five partner organizations.
Vietnam to host P4G Summit in Hanoi, April 14–17
At the press conference, Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu confirmed that Vietnam will host the P4G Summit in Hanoi from April 14 to 17.
He emphasized that green growth and sustainable development are among the highest priorities for many international and regional organizations, and they form a crucial part of Vietnam's national socio-economic development strategy.
"Vietnam has made strong commitments to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and cutting methane emissions by 30% by 2030. We will not sacrifice social justice or the environment in exchange for rapid growth. Vietnam is a standout among middle-income countries, having successfully implemented the Millennium Development Goals and actively contributing to the global Sustainable Development Goals," Deputy Minister Vu said.
This summit is the largest multilateral event on green growth that Vietnam is expected to host between 2021 and 2026. It underscores the country’s leadership and contributions to P4G and to the global drive for green and sustainable development.
It also reaffirms Vietnam’s resolve in fulfilling its international commitments on climate change mitigation, emissions reduction, and transforming its growth model. The summit aims to attract international resources to support Vietnam’s national development objectives.
The event will serve as a platform to share visions, experiences, and policies on green growth while spreading a global call to action and offering practical, impactful contributions to tackling shared human challenges.
High-level international attendance expected
The summit is expected to gather between 800 and 1,000 delegates, including leaders of P4G member states and invited guests such as other governments, international organizations, and influential corporations and investment funds specializing in green growth and sustainable development.
Expected attendees include the Prime Ministers of Ethiopia and Laos, the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, and ministers from South Korea, Indonesia, the UAE, and Rwanda.
Also attending will be deputy ministers and envoys from countries including China, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, Colombia, South Africa, and Italy, as well as leaders from international organizations such as the United Nations, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Asian Development Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Summit agenda and key outcomes
The summit will feature a green growth exhibition, a high-level plenary session, a business dialogue, and five ministerial panel discussions. These will focus on mobilizing resources, transforming food systems, innovative solutions, workforce training, and achieving an efficient and sustainable energy transition.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu noted that the summit is expected to adopt several outcome documents, including the Hanoi Declaration and the P4G Statement on enhanced cooperation with multilateral organizations and mechanisms for green transition and sustainable development, among other deliverables.
