Many teams are being trained abroad and will return home before the opening of the Asian Games.
As many as 500 Vietnamese athletes will compete for medals in 32 categories, including: swimming, athletics, weightlifting, shooting, gymnastics, archery, rowing, canoeing, sepak takraw, chess, chess, table tennis, tennis, karate, boxing, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, wushu, jujitsu, kuash, fencing, roller, volleyball, golf, badminton, handball, e-sports, soft tennis, and breakdance.
At the 18th Asiad four years ago, Vietnam won five gold medals, 15 silver medals and 19 bronze medals. The four gold medals belonged to the women's 4-person rowing (Ho Thi Ly/Luong Thi Thao/Pham Thi Thao/Ta Thanh Huyen); pencak silat (Tran Dinh Nam, Nguyen Van Tri); long jump (Bui Thi Thu Thao), and women's 400m hurdles (Quach Thi Lan). Lan won the gold medal after the gold medalist was found using dope.
At the upcoming Asian Games, Vietnam expects to win gold medals for rowing, martial arts, athletics, weightlifting, and chess. Athletics is highly anticipated after Nguyen Th Ngoc, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, Nguyen Thi Huyen, and Nguyen Thi Hang won the 2023 Asian gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay category.
For men's football category, the Vietnam Olympic team of coach Hoang Anh Tuan will represent Vietnam.
Asiad 19 will take place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou (China), including 40 sports. For the first time e-sports and breakdance will be included. The 2023 Asian Games have the participation of 45 countries and territories.
