Vietnam have been drawn in Group A, together with Thailand, Timor Leste, Laos, Brunei and the Philippines, at the 2019 AFF U22 Championship, to be hosted in Cambodia from February 17 to March 2.
Vietnam and Thailand will meet in the group stage of the 2019 AFF U22 Championship.
Group B is made up of Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Singapore.
According to the organising committee, the fortnight long competition aims to help the teams prepare for the 2010 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers (July 15-23, 2019), which will also serve as the Asian region’s qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The lineup of Vietnam’s U22 team will no longer include popular names such as Cong Phuong, Van Toan, Xuan Truong, Van Thanh and Duy Manh.
Local fans are hoping to see a shining performance from the players who previously attended the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup, namely Quang Hai, Dinh Trong, Duc Chinh and Tien Dung, in next year’s event.
