Addressing a UN Security Council briefing on non-proliferation, Minister Councilor Nguyen Phuong Tra, deputy chief representative of the Vietnam Mission to the UN, reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on supporting the non-proliferation and disarmament of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons.
Vietnam supports the UNSC’s Resolution 2231 and JCPOA, and called on relevant parties to seriously and fully implement the resolution and agreement, Tra stressed.
She called on parties concerned to exercise restraint, avoid actions that erode trust and escalate tensions, and focus on dialogue and negotiation to resolve differences.
Vietnam welcomes efforts to create an environment for dialogue and cooperation inside and outside the Security Council for peace, stability and development in the Middle East, she noted.
During the briefing, Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Ambassador Olof Skoog, Head of the EU Delegation to the UN, and Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason, Head of the Irish Delegation to the UN, and Facilitator of the implementation of Resolution 2231, presented up-to-date reports on the implementation of the resolution and agreement.
The rapporteurs affirmed that the JCPOA and Resolution 2231 are still important achievements of multilateral diplomacy aimed at promoting a comprehensive, suitable and lasting solution to the Iran nuclear issue.
They welcomed diplomatic efforts the JCPOA participants have made in Vienna, Austria, over the recent times, and called for the compliance, effective and full implementation of Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA.
