The Vietnam national football team earned a decisive 3-1 victory over Singapore at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho, advancing to the ASEAN Cup 2024 final with a commanding 5-1 aggregate score after two legs.
A dominant performance
Entering the match with a two-goal advantage from the first leg and energized by the home crowd, Vietnam played with confidence and intensity.
Singapore's Faris appeared to score early with a header in the 10th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Minutes later, Vietnam’s Chau Ngoc Quang also had a goal ruled out due to a foul on a Singapore defender.
Vietnam broke the deadlock just before halftime. Striker Xuan Son converted a penalty in the 45th minute after being pulled down in the box by Lionel Tan.
Sealing the victory
In the second half, Vietnam dominated possession and continued to press.
Hoang Duc’s powerful run down the left flank in the 63rd minute resulted in a perfect assist for Xuan Son to complete his brace.
Although Singapore's Kyoga Nakamura scored a stunning long-range goal in the 74th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1, the visitors could not mount a comeback.
In stoppage time, Tien Linh secured Vietnam’s 3-1 win with another penalty after Van Vi was fouled in the box.
This victory marks Vietnam’s fifth appearance in the ASEAN Cup final, cementing their position as one of the region's strongest teams.
